Learning with Vermont Professional Photographers

I love having the opportunity to learn new and upcoming techniques for Photographic styles from an array of Professional Photographers from throughout the country. The first full Weekend of March is always the time for the Annual Vermont Professional Photographers Association.  I have been part of this organization since 2009, and have been on the VPP board for the past 7 years ( President for the past 2.  Last weekend we had an amazing photographer from NYC by the name of Mark Mann, what a hoot he is. This very talented photographer has photographed many famous faces such as Reese Witherspoon, Bill Murray and may other actors and even Presidents. We had other great speakers, Colby McLemore who instructed about Blogging, ( reminded me to start blogging again), Monica Sigmon ( The Artist Project) and Leslie Andrews ( How to start your Photo business). Several weeks ago I traveled to NH and joined the NH Professional Photographers association and learned some amazing head shot techniques from Peter Hurley. It is such an honor and joy to meet so many amazing photographers. I am especially excited to be part of Peters Headshot Crew.

I like to consider myself an expert at Photography, I mean I am certified by Professional Photographers of America, I’ve won many award for high scoring images that I’ve created. I have a solid customer base, but one NEVER STOPS LEARNING.  This is such an important thing for artists to remember ! Things change, things change all the time. Lighting styles vary from artist to artist, and often there are even some great suggestions on how to deal with certain situations.  Industry expert can provide anyone with additional education, and we get to have some of the best in the country right here in Vermont.  What might be some great opportunities to expose yourself to better education ?

The Times we are living in

The year 2020 has sure started with a BANG, I feel like all the plans I and most others have had for this year have been put on hold and/or redirected to something completely different. How many of you have had change everything about your life, not only for the past 2 months, but for the entire  year ?  COVID – 19 came in with the new year and decided to take on the world. Who would have ever thought the most critical item to get would be toilet paper? Kudos to those that have a 5 year supply, I guess that just wasn’t my first thought when all this started.

I have had a few Bridal couples that had to change their plans, but I am happy to say they took it in stride and are making the best of the situation, I am still going to be there for them when their big day comes, which makes me happy and they are happy knowing I will still be by their side. I have however had to cancel quite a few portrait sessions, but I know we will get them scheduled as soon as this lift happens and we can get back to a new normal.

There will be changes in the studio and even during outside photo sessions as soon as I am able to begin doing them again.  The one thing about our great State is that they are teaching us businesses to follow a protocol, follow guidelines and do our very best to keep everyone safe and healthy as much as possible. I am thankful for that; I will be practicing very strict guidelines and that is not only for me, but for each and every one of my clients as well and the community as a whole. This will become the new norm, I feel that we should always practice hand sanitation and physical space, although I tend to be a hugger, this may be a challenge for me going forward.

A few great things have happened in these past couple of months though and I would love to share them with you.  First I became President for our state Professional Photographers Association, I am very proud to be a member of Vermont professional photographers and to be able to lead the organization this year.  I take this very seriously,  education, expansion and networking are very importand in our line of work, and I strive to better myself in all every day.  We have continued our education via Webinars and online classes and we have our meetings via Zoom to be able to maintain our tasks.  I am however excited to get back to face to face times.

I also managed to clean up and paint my studio space, it feels great knowing my space is organized and cleaned up, and who doesn’t love a fresh coat of paint ?   Took out some cabinets to make some more wall space for pictures and shelves, and I cleaned out and rid myself of some old props that I clearly no longer use, ahhhhh to have some space 🙂 . I can’t wait to start photographing again. I have found myself photographing fruit and other objects and been getting my teenager to dress up and pose for me just because I’m missing it so much, but she is enjoying it.

Since Education is such a big part of what I strive for, I spend 4 months studying for my Certified Professional Photographers exam, I tell you, this was quite the exam.  Just when you think you know just about everything, you are pushed down to realize there is sooooooo much more to learn. I am very VERY happy to report however that I did pass my exam, wooohooooo, This has been on my bucket list for several years now.  I do still have to wait response from the physical photo submission, but I have faith.

I have certainly spent more time doing household things, I actually have enjoyed it too. Spending so much time with my husband and teenage daughter and teenage fur baby, initially I thought we would get under eachothers skin, but it’s really be enjoyable. We have played board games, gone for hikes, walks and bike rides,  and done PROJECTS around the house consiting of painting, yard work and organizing closets, along with this I participated in a month long Minimalist challenge, promising to actually get rid of things every day, and boy let me tell you, I got rid of so much stuff ( clutter).  I have cooked some great meals, baked homebaked breads out of bread starter ( because there is no yeast anywhere to be found) I am excited about my little homestead.  To have the opportunity to really spend time with family is just the best there is.  I do have some adult kids that I haven’t been able to see other than from a distance, but they are all doing great following the physical distancing guidelines.

Well, we have a pile of lemons, things are kind of a mess, things are a bit uncertain and maybe even nerve wracking, but this is life I guess, ups and downs and challenges.  We will all get through this in our own way.  2020 will get better,  it’s a year of change, it’s a year we can chose to fold up and call it quits, or a year that we can emerge from the cocoon and make some of the best decisions of our lives to really come out of this stronger, more motivated and more educated.

Be well, stay healthy and be happy –

Anyone up for some Lemonade ??

Spring IS on the way !

Rest assured that this gloomy, yucky grey weather will soon pass and we will be full fledge into Wedding Season and Outdoor family sessions.

During these rather cold and drab days, I do keep myself quite busy in the Studio with Babies, Maternity shoots and sweet little kiddos that don’t care for the cold much either.  It’s an ideal time to get new Headshots for your business, product shots of things you may be looking to sell, or just some traditional studio portraits, and we have FUN !!

I also spend this time doing some more creative things as I prepare to enter the annual photography competition with Vt Professional Photographers, so I try to nurture my creativity, I will share sone of my images after the comp.

Keeping busy and creative is the best way to spend these days – ( Along with planning a getaway on a Disney Cruiseline very soon) which of course I will share some photos.

Keep smiling friends – and I will see you all soon

Best –  Natascha

As Spring approaches

As I look outside at the brown grass coming through from underneath the grey snow – I just can’t help but  anticipate and picture the lovely lovely Weddings that are coming up for 2017 and 2018 – and how much I am looking forward to the blue skies and green grass again, but I know it’s coming.

Here is a LOVELY Wedding captured in Barre, Vermont

Shannon and Eric

Shannon and Eric had such  beautiful wedding day – an incredible spring wedding – could not ask for better weather ~

My Assistant Allyson went off to photograph the guys being silly at their location, while I caught up with the girls being silly at their location – I think both places were just having a great time and looking forward to meeting up.  Shannon and girls were just lovely in their pastel pinks.  The ladies got ready at a family home  – and the Groomsmen got ready in a another family home-

Off we went to the Ceremony site – The Round Church in Richmond – It’s just one of my favorite places – it’s so Vermont !! ( I’ll never forget the first Wedding I shot there years ago and I was wearing clickity heels – not such a good idea inside that church – I’ve since learned to wear rubber soles. – just a silly side-note)

Shannon had put so many special things into her Wedding – Moments, Thoughts, people

Remberances – And the love that Shannon and Eric were surrounded by was just very very special – so many people from out of town – and many many friends from near by.

After the Ceremony – off we went to Reception – Lots of kisses, Snuggles and hugs in between – Non other than The Old Lantern – Lisa and Roland always do such an amazing job with their Weddings at the Old Lantern – I really love when I hear that I’ll be working there. –

Super sounds Entertainment kept the dance floor full for the evening and made sure to put those special songs into the evening

The Happy couple were even sang to by a young family member with a beautiful song –

The day will never be forgotten -It will be forever special – it will always be the day of Mr. and Mrs. Eric LaPierre.2016may14_nataschasphotography_6105

Miss Vermont Junior High –

I am on my second year of Sponsoring the Miss Vermont High School Junior high, High School and Collegiate young ladies – and it has been such an honor – here is Miss Junior high – just completely beautiful.  She will be going off to her National pageant this year –

Reese Clayton – Junior High – Beautiful young lady and we all wish her lots of luck in her future –

Justin and Kelsey ~ On the Blog

These two are just so special to me !! I feel completely honored to have been part of their Wedding day – and so many other important parts of their lives.

March 19, 2016 was a pretty chilly day – But the sun was out and the sky was blue, crystal clear and it was a perfect Winter day for a Wedding.  We hoped for a little snow, but as luck would have it for us, Winter 2016 was one of the mildest we’ve had in years here in Vermont,  Who can imagine being out in a beautiful Wedding gown on March 19th in VT and not being completely frozen ?

Kelsey and Justin are the picture perfect young couple and everything about their Wedding was just perfect. The Love that these two have for one another just radiates through everyone that comes within 2 feet of them. They were surrounded on their day by so much love and support from an amazing group of friends and family.

The Ceremony and Reception were held at The Strong House, in Vergennes, VT ((Did you know that Vergennes, VT is the smallest City in the U.S? ) I didn’t either. Mary and Hugh ( The Innkeepers ) and their staff were just top notch ! So friendly and helpful and just really happy and up-beat, they made this day so special, Mary even came and joined the bride and groom on the dance floor for a couple of beats.

Dynamic Entertainment provided some perfect music for the day – Ceremony and Reception – Kept everyone dancing and having a great time – www.dynentvt.com

At dusk – Kelsey and Justin and guests sent off some beautiful messages on red balloons to Kelsey and Justin’s little Angel Scarlett  ~ This was one of the most moving and touching moments I have been part of in a long time.

Kelsey has started a little Etsy Shop since – so please check out her site and all her special things she makes and the reason for making them.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/AScarlettRainbow

Happy New year – 2017

Wow, it’s just amazing to think that the first 20 years to this Century are almost past – 2017 – crazy – I have been in my Photo business since 2005 which is just amazing to me as well.  My first goal is to start keeping up on this Blog a bit more – within the next few weeks I’ll be posting my 2016 Wedding couples – as well as many of my families and little Newbies – This time of year is a bit quieter for me which gives a chance to catch up on some Admin things – but is certainly does not keep me away from the photographs. –

I hope everyone settles into this new year nicely and gets ready for a Fantastic year to come –

Beauty Pageant Fashion Shows

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to attend a Fashion show hosted by this years Miss Vt Teen High School Pageants – it was such a fun event – Incredible Gowns were on display by Exquisite Bridal & Formal Wear of St. Johnsbury, VT –

These beautiful young ladies will be heading down to St. Antonio this Summer to compete in the National Pageants – They are just lovely and I wish them all luck and enjoyment throughout this year.
